Scouts donate cookies

— Faulkner County Girl Scouts provided Gift of Caring cookies for the military, donated by those who ordered cookies from the girls.

“We began providing cookies to the military in 2008, when leader Wendy Kulpinski worked with her troop to collect 168 boxes to send to deployed troops. Her husband, Todd, is in the Air Force and has had several deployments to Iraq,” local cookie manager Susan Eggert said.

In 2009, 28 Girl Scout troops collected cookies, sending 770 boxes to local troops serving both in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Then in 2010, Scout troops donated 910 boxes to the military.

“This year, 37 troops participated, and we collected 1,093 boxes of cookies for the military,” Eggert said.

In addition to the military donation, donations were made to the Red Cross, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the Salem Methodist Food Pantry, the Faulkner County Senior Center, Haven House, Bethlehem House and local police and fire stations.
