Trainer achieves cancer certification

— Cliff Wekkin, a personal trainer supervisor at Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center, received a specialty certification — ACSM/American Cancer Society Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer.

A CET is a fitness professional who trains men and women who were recently diagnosed with cancer as they progress through cancer treatment and recovery. A CET is also able to train individuals who have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease but who are considered medically healthy enough for exercise.

Wekkin’s other credentials and certifications include a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer and ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management.

Conway Regional Health and Fitness has 13 certified and experienced personal trainers on staff. Training is available at the fitness center, 700 Salem Road, or at the Personal Training Studio on the corner of College and Donaghey, and is open to both members and nonmembers.
