— Elsewhere in entertainment and the arts this weekend: ‘Nordic Lights’

Pianist Neil Rutman will solo in Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in a minor, op.16, with the Conway Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Israel Getzov at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The program, titled “Nordic Lights,” will also include Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius.

‘American Journey’

Tony Caramia, a piano professor at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., will give a recital titled “An American Journey” at 7 p.m. today in the Administration Auditorium at Harding University in Searcy.

The recital is part of the university’s Classical Lyceum Series. The program will include American Beauty Rag by Joe Lamb, Tango Americaine and Polonaise Americaine by John Alden Carpenter, “Homage to Chaplin” from American Souvenir by Manuel Blancafort, “Streets of Laredo” from American Ballads by Roy Harris, American Minuet by Harold Arlen, American Caprice by Morton Gould, W.C. Handy’s “St. Louis Blues,” Richard Rodgers’“Manhattan” and “America the Beautiful” by Samuel Ward.

Hero in HD

Richard Wagner’s Siegfried, the third opera in Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelungs cycle, will be on area movie screens - Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock, Tinseltown 14 in Benton, Towne Center in Conway and Razorback 16 in Fayetteville - at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of “The Met: Live in HD” series.

The running time is approximately five hours and 29 minutes, including two intermissions. Ticket information is available at fathomevents.com.

Candide at Tech

Arkansas Tech University’s theater department will continue its run of the musical Candide - music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Dorothy Parker, John La Touche and Richard Wilbur, book by Lillian Hellman, based on the Voltaire novel - at 8 p.m. today-Saturday in Witherspoon Auditorium at Arkansas Tech University, Russellville.

Marmalade at UCA

University of Central Arkansas Theatre will stage Mr. Marmalade by Noah Haidle at 7:30 p.m. today-Friday and Wednesday-Nov. 11 in the Bridges/Larson Theatre, Snow Fine Arts Center, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

The play, recommended for adult audiences only, will be the university’s entry in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.

Gladys in Maumelle

Band memories

The North Little Rock Community Concert Band will give a concert titled “Times Remembered” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Patrick Henry Hays Center, 401 W. Pershing Blvd., North Little Rock.

The program will feature works linked to the band’s 30-year history and the 157th birthday of John Philip Sousa and a salute to Arkansas veterans. Rico Belotti conducts.

Monticello Waltzes

The University of Arkansas at Monticello concert and chamber choirs will perform Johannes Brahms’ op.52 Liebeslieder Waltzes with four-hand pianists Tatiana Roitman and Paul Becker as part of their fall concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the Fine Arts Center at UAM in Monticello.

The program will also include “The Heavens Are Telling” from The Creation by Franz Josef Haydn; Cantate Domino by Hans Leo Hassler; and three spirituals, “Old-Time Religion,” “Deep River” and “Hallelujah.” Kent Skinner conducts.

Jazz trumpeter Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers will perform a benefit concert for the Ozark FoothillsFilmFest titled “Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon” at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elizabeth’s Restaurant, 231 E. Main St., Batesville.
