White County JP charged with DWI

— SEARCY - A White County justice of the peace was charged with driving while intoxicated Thanksgiving Day, a police report released Monday by the Searcy Police Department said.

George “Bud” Osborn, 79, of Searcy was stopped at 1:40 p.m. Thursday by Searcy police officer Michael Bullock after Bullock reported seeing Osborn cross the centerline, the report said.

Bullock said he received an Arkansas State Police message of an intoxicated driver entering Searcy on Arkansas 267.

The officer said in the report that he spotted Osborn driving a silver GMC pickup near Gum Springs and Crisp roads near the southern edge of Searcy.

“I observed him cross left of center and leave the roadway after overcorrecting,” Bullock wrote.

Bullock conducted a field sobriety test and found Osborn tested a 0.13 blood-alcohol content, the report said. The legal limit in Arkansas is 0.08.

Osborn was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving left of center and failure to maintain a vehicle.

Attempts to call Osborn for comment at his Searcy home were unsuccessful. Someone answered the telephone and hung up three times without speaking.

Osborn is scheduled to appear in Searcy District Court on Jan. 5.
