ELIZABETH A. BAKER, age 83, of Jacksonville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2011. She was born November 15, 1927, in Marble Falls, Texas, to the late Herman C. Ahrens and Elsie Brodbeck Ahrens. She was preceded in death by Ralph H. Baker Jr. She retired from First Electric in Jacksonville and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

She is survived by her children; Alan Henderson Baker, Erin Adele Stallard and her husband Mark B. Stallard, one brother Herman C. Ahrens Jr., grandchildren; Amber Anderson, Jeremiah Baker, Brian Stallard, Kennan Stallard, Quentin Stallard, great-grandchildren; Jenna Anderson, Zoe Anderson, Riley Anderson, and Jesiah Baker.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011 at the funeral home.

ALFRED C. BENNAGE, 91, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, a retired General Road Foreman of Engines for the Union Pacific Railroad and was a Lt. Colonel with the United States Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Bennage, of North Little Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jane Bennage, of West Memphis, Arkansas and Mark and Sheila Bennage, of Sherwood; daughter, Pamela Bennage, of North Little Rock; sister, Virginia Owen, of Springfield, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Wade, Carlson and Whitney Bennage.

GENEVA RUTH HOLDER, 86, of Mabelvale, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2011. She was a retired retail clerk. She attended Mabelvale United Methodist Church; she enjoyed camping and enjoyed her horse, “Miss Kitty,” and was a loving, caring mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. (Tubby) Holder and one daughter, Tina Brandsasse. She is survived by one son, Walter Holder of Powell, Wyoming; one daughter, Connie Tapp and her husband Thurman of Mabelvale; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

PAULINE LAND, 102, of Little Rock passed away October 11, 2011. She was born in Little Rock to Maynard N. and Rosa Langhammer Hanson and was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. Pauline was the eighth of 12 children, all of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in St. Edward’s Parish and attended Mount St. Mary’s before going to work at the Arkansas Democrat as a bookkeeper. Her faith and family were top priorities in her life. It was that faith that saw her through WWII when she was at home alone with five children while her husband, Buddy, served in the Army. Upon his return, they continued to raise their family and to own and operate Land Cafeteria at 2nd and Spring Streets for 30 years.

She was married to the love of her life, John W. (Buddy) Land Jr. for 70 years before he died in 1998. They were blessed with eight children, three of whom also preceded her in death, Nick Land, Paula Kirchner and Joan Marie Land. She is survived by her sons, John W. Land (Sylvia) and Mike Land; her daughters, Patricia Kirchner (Joe), Mary Scott (Wayne) and Jan Porter; 27 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and nine great-greatgrandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice for their tender, loving care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 14, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church by Father Erik Pohlmeier. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. CHARLENE ALEXANDER MATHEWS was returned to our Lord October 9 after a brief illness. Born in Eudora, Arkansas, November 17th, 1932, she went on to a career in nursing, graduating from Arkansas Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and retiring as a nursing instructor at Northeast Louisiana University. She married Dr. D.M. (Dan) Mathews in 1977 and moved to North Little Rock. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and gardening. She was active with Park Hill Christian Church and volunteered with AARP. She embraced everyone throughout her extended family as her own.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan. She is survived by her sister Bobby Chambers, Dan’s children Judy Michaels and Janice Carroll, grandchildren Justin Michaels, Logan Michaels, Lydia Michaels, Elliott Ray, Collin Ray, Alice Ray, Marion Ray, and Ellen Ray, great granddaughter Aubrey Michaels, nephew, William Chambers, and grandnephews, Christopher Chambers and Jeffrey Chambers.

ARKADELPHIA — Lillian M. Childress, age 89, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She was born March 2, 1922, in Lenox Community (near Alpine), Clark County, the daughter of the late Wiley K. and Georgia Bryant Fendley. She was predeceased by three sisters, Gwendlyn Fendley, Nannie Lola Fendley, and Stella Lackey. Mrs. Childress was a Baptist. She was a retired seamstress. She also worked for the Human Development Center and later operated a child care business. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in her flowerbed, and traveling.

She is survived by one son, R. David Childress, of Little Rock; one daughter, Frances Childress, of Arkadelphia; four brothers, D.A. Fendley and Gerald Fendley of the Lenox Community, Laymon Fendley of Bismarck, and Rueben Fendley of Arkadelphia; three sisters, Gladys Pelham of Texas, Frauline Mathis of Sherwood, and Julia Garrett of Arkadelphia; a large number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

BENTON — Mr. Joe Lee Joey Richards Jr., age 40, of Benton was found October 5, 2011, after he had been missing for a year. He was born June 15, 1971, in Benton. Joe was a construction worker, a US Army Veteran and attended Rose Hill Nazarene Church in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eileen Lou Richards, grandparents, Mick and Zella Richards, Samuel and Clara Goans. BENTON — Mark Steven Yant, 53, of Benton died Sunday, October 9, 2011. He was born on October 26, 1957, in Little Rock. Mr. Yant was a beloved son, husband, father, and true friend. In the early 1990’s, he worked as a union organizer for UFCW Local 1583/2008. It was during this time he met his wife, Stephanie. He organized three years while on a leave of absence from the Kroger Company, where he was employed for over 38 years. Mr. Yant was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, golfer, Razorbacker supreme, and loved by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Yant of Benton; one son, Brandon Steven Yant of Benton; parents, Landon and Willene Yant of Greenbrier; one sister, Marilyn Haygood and husband Billy of Arkadelphia; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Family Church in Bryant with Pastor Perry Black and Pastor Lance Goddard officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. CABOT — Estelle Johnson, age 94, of Cabot, died Monday, October 10, 2011, in Cabot. She was born January 12, 1917, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, to the late Tom and Annie Danley. She was a member of Union Methodist Church in Strong, Arkansas. She loved to read and garden and everyone called her “Granny.”

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Matt Johnson; two children, Susan Johnson and Bob Calhoun. She is survived by three children, Joe Calhoun of Batesville, Tom Calhoun of Cabot, Annette Pagan of Little Rock; five siblings, Tom Danley, Sonny Danley, Jack Danley, all of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Janie Scott of Wisner, Louisiana, Billie Tucker of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

CASA — James Lowell Turner, 85, of Casa, Arkansas, passed away on October 10, 2011. He was born on January 3, 1926, in Hazen to Ben and Mary Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

Jim retired from Petit Jean State Park and attended Welcome Home Baptist Church. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp as an aerial gunner on a B-29 in the South Pacific. Jim also served in Korea as a tech sergeant. He enjoyed attending the annual reunions of the 504th Bomb Group.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Teresa Turner (Robert) of Conway, and Debby Nowell (John) of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Lynette Long (Kevin), Rob Turner (Tracy), and Dax Nowell; and two great-grandchildren, Jaren and Kalen Long.

Service and burial, conducted by Rev. Mike Arndt, will be held at the Arkansas State Veterans’ Cemetery in North Little Rock on Thursday, October 13, at 10 a.m. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Jessica Joheim and the staff at Hospice Home Care. CONWAY — Virginia (Wilson) Penny Wacaster, 83, of Conway, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011. Born in Greenbrier, Ark., on September 7, 1928, she was a daughter to the late Faber and Rebecca Pearl (Glover) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her previously mentioned parents; her first husband, Charles Adrian Penny; second husband, William O. Wacaster; brother, Jessie Hicks Wilson; and grandson, J. Brett Penny. Virginia is survived by her children: Danny Penny and wife Diane of Memphis, Tenn., Steve Penny and wife Debbie, Greg Penny and wife Sonya, all of Conway, and Tanya Gotcher and husband Steve of Vilonia; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisterin-law, Jean Wilson; and a host of extended family and friends.

FORDYCE — Roy V. Ray, 87, of Fordyce died Monday October 10, 2011 at the Dallas County Medical Center in Fordyce. Born August 13, 1924 at Carthage, he was a son of the late Monroe Hilton Ray and Dollie Raney Ray. He was a sawmill operator and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

FORT SMITH — Our Uncle Norris Cunningham Taylor passed away in his sleep Saturday morning at Sparks Medical Center in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He died peacefully, undergoing treatment for an infection. He enjoyed a productive and prosperous life for 84 years, advising his clients as a CPA with Norris C. Taylor & Co. of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Born in 1927 to Laverne and N.C. Taylor Sr., he was raised in Trumann, Arkansas. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and the UA Law School. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn (Taylor) and Dick Watkins of Little Rock. His remaining family includes Rick and Marcia Watkins, Robb and Susie Watkins, four grand-nephews, and two great-grand-nephews. Norris is also succeeded by his cousins, Natalie Stuckey, Tom and Cecile Rose, John and Amy Stuckey. His close friends Wayne Swofford, Curtis Goldtrap and Henry Coleman join the family in mourning Norris’ passing.

MORRITON — Frances Marie (Bridges) Willard-Wolf died October 1, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 7, 1919, the daughter of John and Ella Bridges. She was living in Morrilton but had for many years lived in Haskell.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Clorola Willard, who was five years old when taken in a tragic accident. She will be welcomed into Heaven by her Lord Jesus Christ, her son, Coley, and beloved husband, J.P. Wolf, great-grandson, Adam Sontag. She leaves a step-daughter, Peggy Ann Moser of Las Vegas, Nev., a daughter, Bobby Modean Frach-Stewart of Morrilton, and a son, David Arthur Willard of Silverdale, Wash. CHICAGO — Mary Mack (nee Reuter) Maciejewski, age 96, of Chicago passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. She was born on Oct. 10, 1914 to her parents, August Reuter and Katherine Hummel in Chicago, Ill. Mary was employed in Chicago as a cafeteria worker and worked in a grocery store chain.

She leaves behind a son, Walter, his wife Eroca (Waymen), and a daughter, Kathryn. She was grandmother to David, Daniel, Tony, Bryan and Mary Beth. She was great-grandmother to Samantha, Delanie, Julianna, Hayden, Garrett, Daniele, Brandi, Jessica, Valerie, Tess, and Maia, She was great-great-grandmother to Taylor and Bridget.

She was predeceased by her husband Tony; brothers Clarence, John, William and Walter; sisters Margaret, Bernadette, Agnes and Mildred; son, Thomas; daughter Diane; daughter-inlaw Christine; and great-granddaughter, Ashley.

Activities she enjoyed included: Playing cards (pinochle, poker and solitaire), bingo, being an active Collegian in the Women of the Moose (WOTM), puzzle solving, knitting, fishing, dancing and musical shows.

JACKSON, Miss. — Charlye Estelle Nichols left this life on August 31, 2011. She was born January 14, 1929, to Charles and Mildred Nichols, in Tunica, Miss.

She grew up in Helena, Ark., graduated from Helena High School and went to Hollins College in Lynchburg, Va. She graduated from Ole Miss, where she was a Chi Omega, then went to Northwestern in Chicago and got an RRA degree. She became Administrator of Medical Records at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, at its inception. She then obtained a Juris Doctorate degree froom the University of Memphis. She pursued her career in Oklahoma City, Okla., Denver, Colo., Winter Haven, Fla. and then Jackson, Miss., where she retired after 16 years as a professor at the University Medical Center.

She is survived by her brother and wife, Hal and Tene (Wolfe) Nichols, and several cousins. Interment will be Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena, Ark., at 2 p.m. Memorials to Helena United Methodist Church or St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — C. “Brad” Thompson, age 85, of Knoxville, formerly of Mount Vernon, Arkansas, died Sunday evening, October 9, 2011 at his home.

Brad was a member of First Baptist Church Concord, the Pathfinders Sunday School Class and was an ordained Deacon. He attended the Arkansas State Teachers College and the University of Arkansas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Brad was retired from Arkansas Farm Bureau Insurance after 33 years of service. He loved the mountains, enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and woodworking. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Thompson; son and daughter-in-law, Brad Jr. and Judy Thompson of Knoxville; grandsons, Christopher (Kit) Kupczyk and wife, Katherine (Kathy) of Arlington, Va., Bryan Kupczyk of Knoxville; great grandson, Simon Kupczyk; eight nephews and three nieces.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday followed by services at 4 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Steve Peek, Rev. Kern Spangler and Rev. Sarah Varnell officiating.

Full military honors will be conferred by the U.S. Navy and the East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. on Friday at Highland Memorial West Cemetery for graveside services and interment.
