Mayor Chas E. Taylor has received a letter signed “Citizeness,” which calls his attention to the practice of spitting on the street cars, and suggests that copies of the city ordinance prohibiting the practice be posted in conspicuous places on the cars. A part of the letter states: “In daily rides to and fro one sees continually the evidence of the very nauseating and filthy habit of spitting on the floor, and through, or rather on the window bars, and one can almost always too, see some little child sitting in the window with its little dainty hands clasping a filth-encrusted bar.” 50 YEARS AGO Oct. 12, 1961

A champion of the Revolutionary War hero, Judge Campbell was beaming as the County’s own bust of Count Pulaski was unveiled yesterday in the rotunda of the County Courthouse.

25 YEARS AGO Oct. 12, 1986 YELLVILLE - Former Gov. Frank White said Saturday he has no plans to stop pointing to alleged conflicts of interest in the administration of Gov. Bill Clinton. White, who is trying to unseat Clinton in the Nov. 4 gubernatorial election, made the comment in response to Clinton saying Friday that it was time for the campaign to move on to a higher plane.

The attorney suing the state over delayed child support payments is accusing the state’s child-support czar of not telling the truth regarding his statement that the system now distributes child-support checks on time. At its height, the flaws caused parents throughout the state to go weeks without child-support payments, keeping them from paying their bills.
