Johnson memories fodder for address

— Christy Carpenter, chief executive officer of the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute and daughter of an aide to President Lyndon Baines Johnson and his wife, Lady Bird, will share her memories about the prominent Texans when she addresses the Little Rock Political Animals Club meeting Nov. 2.

Starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Hall of the Governor’s Mansion at 1800 Center St. in Little Rock, the gathering is open to the public, and lunch will be served. There will bea charge of $20 at the door. Space is limited and reservations, which are required, may be made by e-mailing info@comgroup.co.

Carpenter’s parents were journalists, and her mother, Liz Carpenter, was an aide to Johnson when he was vice president. After Johnson became president, Liz Carpenter became chief of staff and press secretary to Lady Bird Johnson.

In April, Christy Carpenter was named to head the institute atop Petit Jean Mountain.
