LITTLE ROCK — A Hot Springs man was arrested Saturday after police say he fatally shot one man and critically injured another.
Herbert Bennett, 24, was arrested at 207 Malvern St. in Mountain Pine about 11:45 p.m. Saturday after two men were shot at 159 Chestnut St. in Hot Springs shortly before 5 p.m., Hot Springs police officer Courtney Kizer said.
Police responded to the residence on Chestnut Street where one man was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Another man had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition Saturday night, Kizer said.
Both victims were from Hot Springs, but further details about the men and their injuries were not released Sunday.
Kizer said a “verbal and physical altercation” started between Bennett and one of the victims.
When Bennett was leaving the residence, he “got in his car and shot two of the people,” Kizer said.
Bennett is charged with first-degree murder and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, Kizer said.
