State opens flu-shot clinics in every county

— The Arkansas Department of Health is holding mass influenza vaccine clinics in every county beginning this week and continuing through the first week of November.

The vaccine will be provided free to Arkansans who do not have insurance or whose insurance will not pay for the shots, the department said in a release. Those who have insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or ARKids First should bring their cards so the state can file for reimbursement.

Children 8 and younger who have never received the seasonal flu vaccine will need a second dose for full protection. Parents should contact a local health department unit or health-care provider for a second dose four weeks after the first vaccination, the release said.

More information — including times and locations of the clinics — is available at healthy.arkansas.gov/programsServices/infectiousDisease/Immunizations/SeasonalFlu/Pages/MassFluClinics. aspx.
