— Convicted killer Nicholas Sheley has asked for a new trial in the first of eight murder cases against him to go to court because he believes a judge improperly allowed jurors to see crime-scene and autopsy photos.

In his motion, attorney Jeremy Karlin argues that Knox County Circuit Judge James Stewart shouldn’t have allowed the photos to be used.

Sheley was convicted in September in the June 2009 death of Ronald Randall of Galesburg. Sheley also is charged in the killings of seven other people, including a couple from Sherwood, but has yet to be tried in those cases.

Karlin lists 71 other reasons he believes Sheley should get a new trial. Among them is the inclusion of jurors who said they knew about the charges facing Sheley.
