Church Women United sets World Community Day

— Church Women United will hold its World Community Day at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince St.

The Rev. Melissa Ross Thomas of Conway will be the keynote speaker, using the theme of the day, Living Our Faith, Unlocking Action.

Thomas is a provisional member of the Order of Deacons in the Arkansas Conference of the United MethodistChurch. She is appointed as assistant director of Arkansas Justice for our Neighbors, aministry welcoming immigrants and refugees into our churches and communities by providing legal services,education and advocacy.

A native of Tennessee, Thomas has a Master of Divinity degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Okla., a Master of Science degree in general psychology from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Tennessee.

According to a press release, Church Women United is an ecumenical movementthat brings together Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women in the United States and Puerto Rico to “work for a just, caring and peaceful society; develop a visible, ecumenical society; use responsibly and creatively the resources God has entrusted to us: intelligence, time, energy and money; and deepen our understanding of what it means to be Christian women of faith in today’s world.”
