Earnings report

— Companies reporting quarterly earnings Wednesday included:

Corning Inc., the specialty glass and ceramics maker, a profit of $811 million, or 51 cents a share, up from $785 million, or 50 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue jumped 30 percent to $2.08 billion. Shares rose 41 cents to close at $14.13.

JetBlue Airways Corp., a profit of $35 million, or 11 cents a share, down from $59 million, or 18 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 16 percent to about $1.2 billion. Shares rose 6 cents to close at $4.42.

Sprint Nextel Corp., the country’s No. 3 wireless carrier, a loss of $301 million, or 10 cents a share, up from a $911 million loss, or 28 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 2.2 percent to $8.3 billion. Shares fell 19 cents to close at $2.51.

WellPoint Inc., the health insurer, a profit of $683.2 million, or $1.90 a share, down from $739.1 million, or $1.84 a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 5.7 percent to about $15.4 billion. Shares rose $2.58 to close at $69.58.
