Second thoughts

— T.O. show no longer in the NFL

Arena Football League fans may want to get their popcorn ready.

Wide receiver Terrell Owens was offered a contract by the Chicago Rush of the AFL for the 2012 season. A standard AFL contract is $400 per week.

Owens, who has played with six NFL teams, held a workout at Calabasas (Calif.) High School on Tuesday.

“We feel that this is an ideal time to approach the future NFL hall of famer,” Rush President and General Manager Gene Nudo said in a release. “It would be a fantastic honor to add Terrell to our current roster for the 2012 season.”

Owens, 37, is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and a five-time first-team All-Pro. He has 1,078 receptions for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns, and 251 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

“Terrell would absolutely complement our current wide receiving corps,” Rush Coach Bob McMillen said. “His animation and over-the-top energy would be an excellent addition in the locker room, and the fans would undoubtedly welcome him here in Chicago.”

Not only would Rush fans welcome Owens, but Bears fans would take him as well, considering their team’s state at wide receiver.

However, the Bears, as with the other 31 NFL franchises, did not offer Owens a contract after his workout Tuesday.

Not thrilled

Miami Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano doesn’t appreciate fans clamoring for Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Some fans have even gone as far to jump on the unofficial “Suck for Luck” bandwagon.

Miami is 0-6, one of three winless teams left in the NFL.

“It’s sick, actually,” Fasano told WFAN-AM in New York. “I can’t even fathom those thoughts of those people that conjure up that stuff. They have never played sports and pretty much aren’t really our loyal fans. I can’t really put any weight into that and I know the players don’t listen to it. It’s a shame, but people are going to talk and we just have to block that out.”More Fasano

Anthony Fasano was also displeased with the Dolphins’ tribute to the 2008 University of Florida national championship football team.

Denver quarterback Tim Tebow, who led the Gators that season, engineered a 18-15 overtime victory over Miami on Sunday.

“Yeah it was awful,” Fasano said. “Showing up at the stadium and seeing all the Gator stuff and the Tebow stuff. It was disheartening, but as players we kind of put ourselves in that position because the Dolphins are in the business of winning football games and making money.

“We haven’t been winning football games, but it’s still a smack in the face - it’s unfortunate we couldn’t rain on their parade and get the win.” Headlines
