Sociology events set for LR hotel

— The 37th annual meeting of the Mid-South Sociological Association will be held at Little Rock’s Doubletree Hotel through Saturday.

Two events are free and open to the public in the Palisades room. They are:

Today at 10:15 a.m., a panel will discuss Southern Exceptionalism and Community Sociology. The panel includes scholars from around the South, including David Sink from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. The discussion will focus on how the unique history and culture of the South affects how community scholars work with nonprofit agencies, community advocates and policymakers to address the needs of poor and low-income people.

Saturday at 11:30 a.m., Goran Therborn from Cambridge University will speak on the dynamics of inequality. Therborn is recognized as a global expert on inequality and social change. His most recent books Inequalities of the World and Between Sex and Power: Family in the World 1900-2000.
