— Whirlpool Corp. says that it will hold a meeting with employees at its factory in Fort Smith.

Fort Smith television station KFSM reports the meeting is to be at 2:30 p.m.

A Whirlpool spokesman at its headquarters in Benton Harbor, Mich., says the company will issue a statement after the meeting.

The factory employed 4,600 in 2006 but has about 1,000 workers now. About 800 employees were laid off about a year ago. Part of the plant’s production was moved to a new factory in Mexico.

Arkansas Online reported earlier this month that a company supplying parts to the Whirpool factory was going to shut down.
