41 hospitals to join Arkansas stroke registry

Forty-one hospitals will participate in an Arkansas stroke registry.

The participating hospitals will add information such as patient transport, diagnosis and treatment to the Arkansas Stroke Registry.

The goal of the database is to analyze ways to improve patient care and reduce stroke deaths and disability.

In 2005, the Arkansas General Assembly created the Acute Stroke Care Task Force (ASCTF), which just last year received $180,000 in state funding to establish the Arkansas Stroke Registry.

The Arkansas Acute Stroke Care Task Force and the American Heart Association are partnering with the hospitals and state Health Department on the registry.

“The development of a stroke registry for Arkansas is imperative as part of a comprehensive strategy to minimize the mortality and disability of this disease in the state," State Health Officer Dr. Paul K. Halverson said. "We appreciate the level of commitment from hospitals serving Arkansans and for the future of this initiative.”
