Screen gems

— There will be a strong Arkansas flavor at this year’s Indie Memphis Film Festival. (The 14th annual festival will be held Thursday through Nov. 6 in and around the Playhouse on the Square theater, 66 S. Cooper St. in Midtown Memphis.)

Indie Memphis, with its focus on regional filmmaking, will host five short films by Arkansas directors. Gerry Bruno’s Seven Souls, Joshua and Miles Miller’s Pillow, and Bryan Stafford’s Ballerina will all be part of the “Short Films #4: Dark & Stormy” block, showing at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Studio on the Square.

Kim Risi’s Disillusioned and Daniel Campbell’s The Orderly will play at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 6 as part of the “Short Films #7: Funny Ha Ha” block, also showing at Studio on the Square.

The festival will also feature screenings of all three Paradise Lost documentaries; the highly anticipated (in some quarters) Jeff Who Lives at Home; the latest film from brothers Jay and Mark Duplass (Baghead, Cyrus, The Puffy Chair); Larsvon Trier’s Melancholia; and Steve James’ documentary The Interruptors, about an activist group working to stop gang violence in Chicago (which won the Audience Award earlier this year at the Little Rock Film festival).

A weekend pass, available for $36 ($18 for single day), will get you into any regular screenings but no Gala screenings or parties. The Film Pass ($85) gains access to all parties as well as the Sunday night Awards shows and gives seating preference before Weekend pass holders. Finally, a Gala Pass ($250) grants all access to any event, screening or party including the Gala, and pass holders arriving at least 15 minutes early are guaranteed a seat. Individual tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for anyof the non-Gala screenings.
