Little Rock attorney Sheffield Nelson’s proposed initiated act, if approved by voters, would set the natural gas severance tax at 7 percent of the market value of gas when it’s extracted from the ground. The existing severance tax applies to the market value of gas when it is extracted, minus the cost of transportation and treatment. Articles in the newspaper July 1, July 9, Oct. 6 and Thursday incorrectly described Nelson’s proposal.
