Glen Rose Lady Beavers

Conference: 3A-5

Coach: Chris Smith (fifth year)

Assistant coach: Randy Aaron

Last year’s record: 11-12 overall and 6-8 in the conference (fifth place)

Returning starters: Jessica Keith (5-9 senior post), Alysa Reed (5-8 junior post) and Rebecca Tuggle (5-7 junior guard)

Best inside players: “Jessica Keith is the best rebounder and defender on the team. She is also the leader for our basketball team,” Smith said. “Reed is our best scorer inside. She averaged about nine points per game last year.”

Best perimeter players: “Rebecca Tuggle is probably our best all-around player. She averaged 10 points per game last year,” Smith said.

How will you match/exceed/fall short of your success from last year? “It depends, I believe, on if our maturity level has grown. Immaturity causes inconsistency,” Smith said. “We were a very immature basketball team from an internal and X and O standpoint. I believe if we have grown up, then we’re going to have a good year.”

Strength of the team: “We are a team of mainly juniors and seniors, so experience should be on our side,” Smith said.

Weakness of the team: “Our depth is a concern. We simply are not a deep team, especially at the point position,” Smith said. “Another concern is our execution of our half-court defense and offense. We are not a team that is going to outscore our opponents, so we must run our stuff well.”

Game to watch: “We take no one for granted. We believe every game is going to be tough,” Smith said.

Toughest opponent: “In our conference, there are no ‘gifts.’ We must come ready to play every night, or we will get our butts kicked,” Smith said.

College prospects: None.
