ELSIE MAE BEARD BLACK, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this life peacefully on Oct. 25, 2011. Her loving survivors include her husband of 56 years, Lloyd W. Black; daughter, Deborah Black Mitchell; granddaughter, Miranda Mitchell; brothers, James Beard, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sylvester Beard, of Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters, Ruth Beard Brown, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Frankie Beard Hines, of Camden, Ark.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at Second Baptist Church, 1709 Barrow Road, Little Rock, Ark. DOROTHY ANN BOWMAN, age 87, of Little Rock, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. She was born to John and Joy Reiman in Macksville, Kan. Dorothy obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Oregon State College in Corvallis, Ore. She married Robert Diles and moved to Fayetteville where she taught at the University of Arkansas and obtained her M. A. in psychology. Following her years at the University of Arkansas, she taught in the Pulaski County Schools, Little Rock University, known today as the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the Jacksonville Air Force Base. Dorothy worked as chief psychologist at the Child Development Center at the Arkansas Department of Health for more than 20 years. In addition, she enjoyed working in her garden, playing bridge, and golf, was a member of the Little Rock Women’s Golf Association, the AARP Chapter 34, and St. James United Methodist Church. Survivors include her four children, Reiman F. Diles (Peggy), of Carlisle, Ark., D’Ann Diles, Linda Ring (Bobby), and Sandra Abbott (Randy), all of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Brady Ring, Nicholas Ring, Travis Abbott, Reiman “Ray” Diles II, Joreece Abbott, and Deanna Diles; and one niece, Lindie Brewer, of Denver, Colo. She is preceded in death by Robert Diles, J. E. Bowman, her son Randy Diles, and her sister Carolyn Brewer. TIM DENIS, 53, of Morgan, was promoted to heaven Oct. 28. 2011. He was born Oct. 17, 1958, in Little Rock, to Mary Catherine Haines and Jack H. Denis Sr. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and was a member of the Oasis Church. Tim is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cindy Barnes Denis; two daughters, Patricia Tullos (Merle) and Paisley Denis; his parents, Jack Sr. and Mary Catherine Denis; and mother-in-law, Ruth Ann Barnes, all of Morgan; brother, Jack Denis Jr. (Shirley), of Sheridan; sister, Betty Haines, of Jacksonville; and a host of family and friends. NORMA L. DISTLER, born Jan. 5, 1945, found eternal peace on Oct. 28, 2011. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Hobbs; mother, Ruble Lee Bell; sisters, Pat Lockaby and Janie Jo Kosydar. Norma is survived by her loving, caring husband of 48 years, Jerry; children, Donna (Mark) Gruhlke, Brian (Teresa) Distler, and Diana (Karl) Mercer. Siblings: Jackie (Carl) Corley, Tommy (Vonda) Hobbs, Timmy Hobbs, Pamela (Ted) Williams, and Connie Hobbs. EURAL CASON “NICK” GIVENS, age 85, of North Little Rock, passed away July 26, 2011. He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He is survived by his wife, Anita; daughter, Linn (Kenny) Siems; a son, Robert (Janet). He had six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Nick was a World War II Marine disabled veteran, a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. He retired in Florida before moving to Arkansas. Nick was an automotive dealer in southern Indiana and Louisville, Ky., for many years. His memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m., at Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. WENONAH FAY BAUGHN HOLL passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, in Little Rock, Ark. Born Aug. 19, 1915, she was the daughter to the late R.N. Baughn and Zearl Russell Baughn in Belleville, Ark., and moved to Conway when she was a year old and called central Arkansas home. She was married to Gordon Hain Holl in 1942. She received her education in the Conway public schools and obtained her bachelor degree from the University of Central Arkansas. She attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin and Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn.

Wenonah worked as a high school teacher in the Delta and a college professor at Hendrix, UCA, and Peabody. Wenonah shared a passion for the arts and humanities with her husband and remained involved as administrators, teachers, and supporters well into retirement. As Wenonah once put it, “she only retired from a paycheck.” Wenonah’s primary desire was to open up new vistas for others so that they, too, could know the richness of living and enjoying every day, the little as well as the big things.

MARIAN WINIFRED HULVEY, 75, of Little Rock, died Oct. 29, 2011, in Wooster, Ark. Born Nov. 9, 1935, in Little Rock, she was the daughter of Hershel and Verdi Oliver Horton. A retired insurance secretary, she played piano and organ for many years at the First Church of God in Little Rock, and later served as music director for Ivy Chapel Christian Church. She enjoyed her grandson and reading. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Cyndi Dillion and her husband, Ross, of Wooster; a brother, Ray Horton and his wife, Claudia, of Monticello, Ark.; and her grandson, Drew Dillion. HELEN MARIE KAVANAUGH, age 87, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011. She was born in Sheridan, Ark., on Jan. 20, 1924. Marie was raised and educated in Rison, Ark. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years at Baptist Health Medical Center. Marie was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 1991. Marie is survived by two sons, Steve (Michelle) Kavanaugh and Rick Kavanaugh, of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Drew (Barbara) Kavanaugh of Lancaster, Pa., and Kelly (Jason) Imhoff of North Little Rock; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Kavanaugh and Hannah Kavanaugh, of Lancaster, Pa.

There was a private family graveside service conducted by the Reverend Camille LeBron. MARGARET “MARGO” LANGLEY, 69, of Sherwood, passed away on Oct. 29, 2011, at Hospice Home Care, Little Rock. Margo is survived by her daughter, Susan Langley, and grandson, Colby Langley, of Little Rock; her brother, Robert Pritchett and wife, Joann, of Sherwood; nephew, Cory Pritchett and wife, Alex; and grandniece Adelaide Pritchett, also of Sherwood.

Margo was born May 4, 1942, in Century, Fla., to the late Hunter and Jewell Murphy Pritchett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Langley. Margo retired from the Arkansas Insurance Department, Employees Benefit Division, where she was a claims administrator. Diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, in August 2010, and she continued working every day until January of this year. Her hobbies included spending time with her much loved grandson, Colby, in addition to gardening, reading, and visiting the Smokey Mountains in the Fall. She was a member of Little Rock’s First Baptist Church and former member of Second Baptist Church, El Dorado, Ark.

Margo enjoyed being independent and planned accordingly. At her request, she wanted a private family service with “no fuss.” She always said that she knew where her final heavenly home was and didn’t want folks to make a deal with a funeral service and flowers, but wanted her friends and family to remember her as a Christian and true friend. MONROE SMITH JR., 81, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011. Monroe is survived by his wife, Edna Smith; and his children, Rick Smith, Joey Smith, Sherry Starke, Randy Smith, Scotty Smith, Fred Avila, Dennis Avila, Melinda Phillips, and Denise Taylor; brother, Buddy Smith; sisters, Martha Sharp and Gaye Miller; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Monroe and Gladys Smith; his wife, Maxine Smith; daughter, Julie Smith; sisters, Betty Ehlers, Barbara Burch, and Evelyn Harris; and brother, Kenneth Smith.

Monroe was an extraordinary man who loved the Lord, the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was a deacon at Crystal Hill Baptist Church for many years. Monroe worked at Grobmyer Lumber Company all his life until his retirement. He then started his own business, Vendo-Matic Washer Co. Inc., which he ran until he retired a second time. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends. ALEXANDER — Daniel Lee Robinson, 44, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at his home in Alexander. He was born on Nov. 15, 1966, in Chester, Pa., to parents John Howard and Bettie Mae Robinson. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife of 21 years, Robin Robinson; three sons: Tye Snyder and wife, Kerah, of Haskell; Aaron and Craig Robinson, both of Alexander; one daughter, Kala Preston, of Alexander. Also surviving Daniel are his parents, John Howard Robinson and Bettie Mae Sanderson, and one brother, Richard Kevin Robinson and wife, Rose, of Pennsylvania, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Dan's greatest pleasure was spending time with his wife and children; he loved football and was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan. Dan was a talented musician who left all of us his beautiful melodies to ponder and enjoy. He greatly enjoyed his work as a medical engineer for St. Jude Medical. Dan was always a living testimony for Christ and all will miss his sincere wit and joy for life. ARKADELPHIA — Pauline Joanna Womack Taylor Burson, 88, of Arkadelphia joined her heavenly father and loved ones on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. She was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Dallas County, the daughter of the late A. J. and Thelma Lawrence Womack. She was a longtime member of Waverly Methodist Church at Wave, Ark., (Dallas County). Mrs. Burson was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rupert A. Taylor; son, Robert (Sid) Taylor; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Billy Joe Burson; one daughter, Thelma Jean Herndon (Thommie), of Little Rock; one son, Bruce Burson, of Gum Springs; daughter-in-law, Wanda Taylor, of Camden; one brother, Troy Womack, of Camden; nine grandchildren: Jimmy Atkins, Lisa Armstrong (Jim), Brett Herndon (Ramona), Bart Herndon (Amy), Ashley Eldridge (Scott), Tony Taylor (Mandy), Roger Taylor (Judy), Adam Taylor and Baylee Burson; 16 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Charles Burson (Diane); many other special relatives and extended family. BENTON — Amelia Trevino Frazier, 66, of Benton, passed away Oct. 26, 2011, at Saline Memorial Hospital. She was born June 8, 1945, in Pearsall, Texas, to Fortunado Trevino and Teodora Cortez. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Amelia retired from Unilever Bestfoods in Little Rock after 20 years of service. She also served with the U.S. Army Dental Corps during the Vietnam era. She spent most of her time giving to others and volunteering, and had an unconditional love for animals. In 2010, she was featured in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for donating critical lifesaving equipment to the Benton Fire Department. The first of its kind in the state, the equipment enabled firefighters to provide oxygen to animals caught in house fires. She frequently donated to numerous charities, her favorite being the Humane Society of the United States. Amelia was an incredibly selfless and generous person, and her life set an example of what it truly means to live for others. She was a member of Midtowne Church and a lifelong follower of Christ. Amelia loved shopping, reading, cooking and painting. She left us unexpectedly but was surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by many. She is survived by her son, John Randy Crone Jr., of Conway; daughter, Deborah Warford and husband, Shane, of Benton; granddaughter, Casey Procop and husband, Joe, of Benton; sister, Loyda Trevino, of Pearsall, Texas; and brothers, Rafael Trevino of Los Banos, Calif., and Roberto Trevino of Los Angeles, Calif. CABOT — Charles Robert Healy, 77, of Cabot, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. He was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Gould to the late Robert and Corwin Healy. Mr. Healy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later in construction. CAMDEN — Edgar Anderson, 86, of Camden, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Wilmar, Ark. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of U of A, with an MSBE in mechanical engineering and an avid Razorback fan. Mr. Anderson retired from International Paper Company in 1985 as an assistant power plant superintendent. Mr. Anderson is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Anderson Cobb; parents, Rolph and Etta Torian Anderson; brother, Cecil Anderson; and sister, Ida Anderson. CAMDEN — Margaret Harbour, 75, of Camden, Ark., died Friday, Oct. 28, at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation, Camden. She was born Feb. 2, 1936, at Ingalls, Ark., a daughter of the late Charlie Harrod and Annie Beatrice Purvis Harrod. She received her education in the Hermitage Public School System and Arkansas A&M College at Monticello. She was a homemaker and member of Maul Road Church of Christ. She married Hoy Glenn Harbour on July 2, 1954, and he died Aug. 26, 2001. Surviving is a brother, Keith Harrod, Ingalls, Ark.; a sister, Tina Harrod Ray, Hot Springs, Ark.; two granddaughters: Jodie Harbour, Camden, Ark., and Jennifer Nicole Barker, Elkins, Ark.; a great-grandson, Pierceson Barker, and a great-granddaughter, Kiely Barker, both of Elkins, Ark. CONWAY — Norman Bryan Gilden, 69, of Conway, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, in Little Rock. He was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Elizabeth City, N.C., to the late Norman Grady Gilden and Marian Marie Davis Gilden. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retired from Molex, Inc., in Maumelle, and a member of First Christian Church. He loved riding his motorcycles and being outdoors.

FORREST CITY — Mrs. Lettie Lou “Johnnie” Conlee, age 83, of Forrest City, Ark., died at her home Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. Mrs. Conlee was born on Dec. 10, 1927, in Newport, Ark. She was the daughter of Herbert Abramson and Laura Davis Abramson. Mrs. Conlee was a housewife and a Methodist. Mrs. Conlee married Coolidge Conlee in 1951, and he preceded her in death in 1990.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Conlee and wife Sue, and two grandchildren, Drew and Sarah, of Fayetteville; a daughter, Julia C. GREENBRIER — Joe Deal Dickens, 88, of Greenbrier, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Covenant Care in Greenbrier, where he had lived for the last four years. He was the son to the late Thomas J. and Mary Lieblong Dickens. Joe served his country during World War II, installing, repairing, and maintaining military communications systems. He was awarded several citations in the Mediterranean theater of operations. He was a 65-year member of IBEW 295 in Little Rock. During his career he worked throughout the country including Cape Canaveral, Fla. Joe was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Conway.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Martha June Haden Dickens; brothers, Dennis, George, E.A. (Calf), and T.J. Dickens; and his sisters, Pearl Glover and Connie McVey. Survivors include his sister, Barbara Matchett; brother, Bill Dickens; and special niece and nephew, David and Kay Dickens; and several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Patrick, Susan, Jessica, Joshua, and Josiah Dickens for their devoted and loving care over the past four years. He was born Aug. 14, 1946, in Drasco, Ark., to Gene and Mary Ann Spinks.
