Ozarka College to hold International Days

— Ozarka College will present International Days at each of its campuses in Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mountain View and Mammoth Spring, starting Tuesday.

This year’s international experience will focus on Japan, and Mieko Uchida Peek, a Japanese language literature professor from Lyon College, will present “Japanese Manners.” The presentation will focus on cultural differences, including how to eat and how to greet people, as well as differences in the school system in Japan versus the United States.

Each of Peek’s presentations will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

and will begin at the Melbourne campus at 218 College Drive, in the dining room on Tuesday. Peek will be at the Mountain View campus at 1800 College Drive in the lecture hall on Thursday, at the Ash Flat campus at 64 College Drive in the lecture hall on Nov. 8, and at the Mammoth Spring campus at Fifth Street and Archer on Nov. 10.

The public is invited to attend these presentations and experience Japanese culture. Becaus of limited space at the Mammoth Spring campus, anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Anthem Eder, Ozarka College-Mammoth Spring site coordinator, at (870) 625-0411 to reserve a seat.

Ozarka College student artwork inspired by Japanese culture will also be showcased, along with Bonsai, which is a Japanese art form of displaying miniature trees in containers. Haiku poetry written by Ozarka College students; Japanese block prints;

books related to Japanese culture, gardens, and cooking; and a traditional Japanese wedding kimono will also be available for viewing.
