Jacksonville man charged in battery

A Jacksonville man faces a first-degree battery charge after police say he shot a man in the neck with a shotgun outside the Hemlock Courts housing project in North Little Rock.

About 6:22 p.m. Oct. 15, police responded to the 2700 block of East Fourth Street where they found a man, later identified as Ronald Lewis, 23, lying in a pool of blood, according to an affidavit.

Officers spoke with a witness who said Lewis was her boyfriend and that he had been arguing with anotherman in the apartment parking lot. The man left in a gold car but returned a short time later carrying a shotgun wrapped in a brown quilt, the affidavit states.

After Lewis was shot, the man walked over to Lewis and kicked his legs before leaving the scene on foot, the affidavit states.

Lewis was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition at the time. His condition Saturday was not available.

The witness identified the gunman from a photographic lineup as Earl Bernard Crawford, 52, of 300 S. Hospital Drive, Apartment 804, in Jacksonville.

Crawford was arrested about 4 p.m. Thursday and released Friday from the Pulaski County jail after posting $25,000 bail.

NLR men jailed in

beating, robbery

Two North Little Rock men were being held Saturday night at the Pulaski County jail after each told police he watched the other beat and rob a woman earlier this month.

On Oct. 8, the woman told police that she was walking down 23rd Street in North Little Rock when the two men lured her over to their pickup and pulled her inside by her hair, an arrest affidavit said.

She said the men then drove her to an alley behind Big D Liquor at 2400 Railroad Ave., where they tried to remove her clothes and the driver began punching her in the face.

During the fight, the woman’s cell phone, two rings and some cash were taken.

Tony Harper, 20, and Ryan Drayer, 23, were named as suspects and implicated each other in interviews with police, according to the affidavit.

Harper was arrested Tuesday and Drayer was arrested Wednesday. The men were being held in lieu of $50,000 bond each.
