Saline County Library to feature works of local artist

— The Saline County Library will feature the works of local artist Lainie Deerman through November at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. The art, which is exhibited in the meeting room, is open for viewing during regular library hours. A public reception in Deerman’s honor will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the library. Deerman said she has always wanted to be an artist. “I began my study in the fine-art world of drawing and

painting, which led to my degree in studio art and later a master’s in art education. I began my love affair with photography about eight years ago while at college and haven’t stopped photographing since.” Deerman added that photography began simply as a hobby but became her career before the birth of her son, Grey.

“I feel extremely blessed to be doing what I love as my occupation, and I am so grateful to all who appreciate my photography as an art form,” she said.

Deerman said her portraitphotography style consists ofsimple, yet strong compositions.

“I do my best to interact with my subjects so that their personalities are unveiled,” she said.

She also said she prefers the quality of natural lighting, which lends itself to outdoor work.
