Five rice mills are donating an estimated 30,000 pounds of rice to the Arkansas Rice Depot for distribution to the needy in the state.
The Rice Depot announced in a news release Wednesday that Cormier Rice Milling, Producers Rice Mill, Riceland Foods, Riviana Foods and Specialty Rice are making the donation.
Arkansas leads the nation in rice production with about 9 billion pounds per year.
The Arkansas Rice Depot distributes the food to community organizations, churches and elementary schools and provides home delivery to needy senior citizens.
