Hot Springs gets funding for trail extension

— Hot Springs has acquired funding to build a bridge over a creek that will connect a pair of recreational trails.

The Sentinel-Record reports that the city was included in $1.8 million allocated by the Arkansas Highway Commission to help communities develop their trail systems.

Hot Springs is getting $40,000, and another $10,000 is available — half from the city and half from Friends of the Park.

The bridge will cross Hot Springs Creek and will connect two previously developed trails.

One trail runs from Grand Avenue to Runyon Street and the other north from Belding Street.

The creek is included in a 380-foot gap between the two trails.
