Women wanting to hike get offer

— Park interpreter MaryAnne Stansbury believes some women would like to try hiking but they’re afraid to venture onto trails by themselves. To ease them into the woods, she plans two “ladies only” Sunday morning walks in April at Pinnacle Mountain State Park.

Both are free and open to all women and girls. Mothers may bring children of either sex, if they think the kids are up to walking for two hours at a steady pace.

Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, Stansbury will lead a leisurely paced three-mile hike around the base of Pinnacle Mountain. The group will gather at the East Summit trailhead.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 29, the hike will go off the trail to explore places less well known to park visitors. This hike will meet at the park visitor center.

These two outings are warm-ups for a weekly women’s hiking group Stansbury plans to introduce in May.
