Titanic floats back into theaters

In this week’s MovieStyle, Dan Lybarger revisits James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic, which has just been re-released in 3-D! And while the movie isn’t much improved by the conversion, it’s not hurt much either, and if you’re a sucker for three-hour weepathons, you’ll probably get on board. Again.

Elsewhere, Scottish director Lynne Ramsay’s profile in nihilism, We Need to Talk About Kevin, finally shows up in local theaters, having failed to fulfill its Academy Award-seeking dreams. Philip Martin admires Tilda Swinton’s vanity-free performance, and the unflinching eye of cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, but finds the totality of the film a bit pat. Better is Dee Ree’s coming-of-age story, Pariah, about a Brooklyn teenager coming to grips with her sexuality in a conventional middle-class home, where she’s always been Daddy’s girl.

Oh, and then there’s American Reunion.
