ACCIDENT REPORT
Petrino statement
“The state police report today provides an accurate description of my accident, which includes details that had not publically come to light prior to the report being issued. I regret that I have not publically acknowledged a passenger on the vehicle. I have been in constant pain, medicated and the circumstances involving the wreck have come out in bits and pieces. That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell’s name being revealed. In my press conference, I referred to her simply as ‘a lady’. My concern was to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public. In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment when I chose not to be more specific about those details. Today, I’ve acknowledged this previous inappropriate relationship with my family and those within the athletic department administration.
I apologize to my wife, Becky, and our four children, Chancellor (David) Gearhart, Jeff Long, the Board of Trustees, University administration, my coaching staff, student-athletes and the entire state of Arkansas. I have been humbled by the outpouring of concern and get-well wishes. I apologize to the Razorback Nation for the attention my actions have brought to the University of Arkansas and our program. I will fully cooperate with the University throughout this process and my hope is to repair my relationships with my family, my Athletic Director, the Razorback Nation and remain the head coach of the Razorbacks.”

FAYETTEVILLE University of Arkansas football Coach Bobby Petrino was placed on paid administrative leave Thursday night after the Arkansas State Police released an accident report contradicting his earlier public statements that he was alone when he crashed his motorcycle Sunday evening.
According to the report, Jessica Dorrell, 25, a former UA volleyball player who was hired March 28 as the football program’s student athlete development coordinator, was on the motorcycle with Petrino when it crashed off Arkansas 16 in rural Madison County.
Petrino admitted in a statement Thursday evening that the state police report was accurate and that he had had a “previous inappropriate relationship” that he was trying to keep out of the public.
In the statement, Petrino apologized to university officials, players, his wife and “the entire state of Arkansas.”
In a 10 p.m. news conference at the Broyles Athletic Center on campus, Athletic Director Jeff Long announced that he had placed Petrino on leave and would conduct a“thorough, expeditious review” before making any further decisions about the coach’s job status. Long said assistant head coach Taver Johnson, who was hired in January, would take over administrative responsibilities for the Razorbacks football program during Petrino’s absence.
Long said Petrino called him at 3:12 p.m. on Thursday to tell him that Dorrell had been a passenger on his motorcycle when it crashed.
Petrino’s UA contract says he can be dismissed with cause for conduct “which is clearly contrary to the character and responsibilities of a person occupying the position of Head Football Coach or which negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the University or UAF’s athletics programs in any way.”
The university could also discipline Petrino for such conduct through suspension without pay, reduction of salary or incentives, or loss of “special allowances for unusual expenses.”
Long would not speculate about any potential punishment for Petrino, who has a 34-17 record in four seasons and has led the Razorbacks to 21 victories in the past two seasons, the most at UA since 1964-65.
Long was asked if his relationship with Petrino is now strained.
“Well, certainly when someone isn’t as forthcoming as they should have been, certainly it puts the relationship in a different place,” Long said. “But we can overcome that. That’s something we’ve got to work through.”
The day after the accident, UA had released a statement on behalf of Petrino saying that no one but Petrino was involved in it.
Petrino said the same thing to TV reporters at a news conference Tuesday. When asked if he was alone in the crash, Petrino replied, “Yeah,” and gave no further comment.
Petrino said in Thursday’s statement that he has been in constant pain and on medication since his accident and that “the circumstances involving the wreck have come out in bits and pieces.”
“That said, I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell’s name being revealed,” Petrino said. He said his concern was “to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public.”
“In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment when I chose not to be more specific” about the details of the wreck, he said.
In the accident, Petrino, 51, suffered a cracked C2 vertebrae, four broken ribs and severe bruising around his face. The accident also caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to his Harley-Davidson Road King.
Dorrell was listed in the accident report as having no injury. She didn’t return calls seeking comment Thursday.
The report says Petrino was headed west on Arkansas 16, with Dorrell on the back of his motorcycle, when he drove off the right side of the road at 6:32 p.m. for an “unknown reason” as he was applying the brakes.
In a written statement to Trooper Josh Arnold, he said, “Because of sun and wind I could not maneuver the turn, drove off the road. Tryed to lay the bike down and the next thing I know I was lying in a wood pile!!”
Dorrell told troopers that she didn’t know what caused the accident.
At Tuesday’s news conference, Petrino talked about the moments after the accident, in which he fell into a pile of limbs in a roadside ditch: “When I came out of the ditch there was a lady there that had flagged down the car.”
“The guy that was in the passenger seat said, ‘Get in, we’ll just take you right to the hospital.’ So I got in the car, and we just headed toward Fayetteville.”
In his statement Thursday, Petrino identified the “lady” as Dorrell.
The accident report identifies the motorists who stopped to help Petrino and Dorrell as Benjamin Williams and Jody Diane Stewart of Ozark, who were in a car with Williams’ 12-year-old son.
Stewart and Williams said Thursday that they didn’t see the accident. They said they saw a man in the ditch trying to get out and stopped the car. There was another car already pulled over, Stewart said.
Williams said Petrino was “in pretty bad shape” and was covered in blood.
Stewart said, “He was disoriented. He was in a lot of pain.”
Williams said he helped the man out of the ditch.
“I told my son to get some water and doctored him up,” Williams said. “We got socks and a dirty T-shirt and doctored him up. It was bad.”
Stewart said they put Petrino in the car and drove him from the accident scene. They said they didn’t take a woman from the scene.
Petrino told reporters Tuesday that his first phone call after the wreck was to team surgeon Chris Arnold.
State police Capt. Lance King, who coordinates security details for the Razorbacks team, also received a call Sunday about the wreck on his cell phone while he was grocery shopping about a mile and a half away, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said.
According to the accident report, Williams and Stewart drove Petrino and Dorrell to East Huntsville Road and Crossover Road in Fayetteville, where they met King. When told Thursday that some of their account of the accident aftermath conflicted with the police report, Williams and Stewart looked briefly at the report, then declined to be interviewed further.
Dorrell “departed in her personal vehicle,” the report said. King drove Petrino to the hospital in his state-owned, unmarked car, Sadler said.
Dorrell, a letterman for the UA volleyball team from 2004-07, graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing. A team captain during her tenure, Dorrell made the SEC All-Freshman team in 2004 and was a second-team All-SEC pick later in her career.
Petrino hired Dorrell on March 28 from her position at the Razorback Foundation, to replace Dann Kabala. Dorrell had been serving as assistant director of women’s athletics at the foundation and was described on the UA website as the first female fundraiser there.
Dorrell’s annual salary in her new position is $55,735, according to UA spokesman Steve Voorhies. Her salary at the foundation, a private entity, could not be determined Thursday.
She is engaged to marry Josh Morgan, who is the director of operations for the UA swimming and diving team, according to a website that said it was created by the couple.
On Thursday evening, the website - morgan-dorrell.ourwedding.com - was no longer operable and shows a message: “this site does not contain any usable pages.”
Petrino, who earns a salary of $2.985 million a year, joined UA in December 2007, after less than a season as coach of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons.
He has led the Razorbacks to three Bowl Game appearances, including a Cotton Bowl victory over Kansas State, and a No. 5 national ranking in 2011 when the Razorbacks went 11-2.
Wearing a neck brace as he spoke at the Tuesday news conference, Petrino said he had spent much of Sunday before the wreck at Beaver Lake with his wife, Becky, and debated wearing a helmet before going on one of his motorcycle rides.
“The ironic thing is that we are sitting there in the kitchen, Becky and I, and I have two helmets out. And I say, ‘This one is really going to be heavy and hot, and this one makes me look like a conehead. I think I’ll just go with the hat.’”
The accident report lists Dorrell’s only safety equipment at the time of the crash as “eye protection.”
Petrino was not cited in the crash, and he told reporters that he had not been drinking. State police did not test Petrino’s blood-alcohol content, which Sadler said is not unusual for an accident that does not involve a death.
In such accidents, troopers don’t request blood tests unless they have reason to suspect alcohol was involved, Sadler said.
The Arkansas State Police did not mention the passenger in statements to reporters before Thursday afternoon, four days after the accident, when it notified reporters that the accident report had been completed and could be picked up at a troop office for a $10 fee.
Sadler said investigators didn’t know about the passenger until Tuesday, after a trooper spoke to Petrino following his release from the hospital.
By that time, Sadler said, he had already told reporters that he would not be releasing any more information until the accident report was finished.
“We wanted to make certain that we had all the information and that all the information was accurate,” Sadler said.
King didn’t know about the passenger when he drove Petrino to the hospital, and Petrino didn’t mention her to him, Sadler said.
“Capt. King was not conducting an interview at that time,” Sadler said. “He had one specific mission and that was to deliver the coach to the medical facility that he requested to be taken to.”
State police provide preliminary reports on fatal accidents on the agency’s website and occasionally issue news releases about other crashes before full accident reports are completed.
Sadler said full accident reports often take two or three days to complete and that there is no deadline for when one must be completed.
Sadler said the $10 fee for a copy of the report is required under Arkansas Code 27-53-510. He acknowledged that state police have occasionally provided accident reports to news outlets for free in the past, but he said the agency has been making an effort for the past several months to follow the law more consistently.
“We have really been trying to tighten up the ship,” Sadler said. The law, he noted, “states that a $10 fee shall be collected.”
“It doesn’t say ‘may be.’ It doesn’t say ‘can be,’” Sadler said.
Gov. Mike Beebe didn’t have any problem with the state police charging the fee, his spokesman, Matt DeCample said.
“It’s hard for him to have a problem with them following the statute that’s on the books,” DeCample said.

The worst part is not lying to Jeff Long, his wife, and the public. It's the UA hiring BP's girlfriend. At $3 mil./year, he can afford a kept women rather than the state paying for her. He won't be fired. Most UA fans just want to win.
Is BP going to "give this bride" away at her wedding?
It's no secret that Les Miles is a better person than BP.

The fans of Arkansas have let wealthy individuals and business interests buy the media for the UA to ensure the program will get no in-state competetion and that no other atheletic program gets much attention. Money buys protection and prestige. The arrogance comes along with the purchase. What goes around, comes around.

Where are all of the people that were screaming for the firing of Houston Nutt when allegations were made about him with the great cell phone scandal? Oh wait, Petrino is a winning coach so that makes it okay...NO! It's about time people stand up and do the right thing all of the time and not just when it suits their personal beliefs. Wait and see, he will still be the AR coach simply because he is winning games. I hope that I'm proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening. Winning is power and losing is a nail in your coffin.

I think the picture accompanying this story gets to the heart of the issue and demonstrates why a liar and adulterer can no longer remain head coach. BP and his pretty mistress sit at a table before admiring throngs of youngsters who are eager for his autograph, eager to emulate, and hoping to play ball some day.
And BTW, Les Miles is too faithful, as evidenced by his unwavering faithfulness toJordan Jefferson!

BP did the same thing LOTS of 51 y/o rich guys do. Got him some fun on the side...and a Harley. Prob is he lied to the public when he got caught. Most of us really don't care about his "side piece", but do care that he lied and that we are paying her more than the average Hog Fan to be by his side.
But sadly this is Arkansas and we will play a song and dance for a while then he will be gone...all over doing what most of his peers have done.

To outofstate, we were screaming for the firing of Houston for a least 2 years - long before the cell phone incident - because he was a lousy coach. At that point we were willing to use whatever would work to make him go away. If you were a true hog fan, you would have known that.

BP has now been initiated into the SEC coaching fraternity. The difference between this incident and the Houston Nutt episode is found in the winning percentage comparisons.
BP will stay at Arkansas just like Clinton stayed in the White House. Because when things look good like your football program or the economy, who really cares about your personal life. If John Calipari can coach at Kentucky, Pitino at Louisville, and Cam Newton plays at Auburn, then who can cast the first stone at BP? His personal mis-step did not involve cheating on the football field, like what you can find in too many college (SEC included) programs. And, after all, isn't that what is the most important? Go Hogs!

Don't worry Razorback fans. UA administration had no problem with Petrino's low moral character when they hired him. They will just slap him on the wrist and act appalled, but inside they aren't surprised. Petrino's been a liar his whole life-he's not going to change now.

The biggest issue I see here, other than the somewhat obvious moral failure of a married man, is that this lady was an employee for the football program. Pretty sure there are personnel policies discouraging such activity with subordinates. Sounds like this could end very poorly for Petrino and the Athletic Department.

I have three comments to make.
1. BP is a heck of a coach.
2. "chose not to be more specific" is now a synonym for lying.
3. If anyone had followed his career at Louisville it should be no surprise that he would lie to Mr. Long. He was caught lying to his AD at Louisville numerous times and many thought he should have been fired for it wins aside. You should have known what you were getting.

BP is pretty lucky. With those broken ribs he could have easily punctured a lung by not calling for an ambulance. We have always been told to keep an injured person still and not move them until the EMT arrives. He's also lucky that the trooper didn't write him a ticket for careless driving and leaving the scene of the accident. BP needs to learn two things; #1 Learn to ride a motorcycle better and #2 Learn to lie better.

You left out while at Louisville he lied to the AD and said he hadn't been in contact with LSU and admitted it only when the newspaper proved the story. He also lied about another contact. And then when he left for Atlanta it was only two days after signing a contract extention. He then claimed the Atlanta contact started right after signing and that from start to finish it took less than two days. Of course that also proved to be a lie.
That's why he is known here to many as Bobby Pinocchio.

As I've said before, the cover-up is usually a bigger problem than the affair. Why was Dorrell JUST put on Petrino's payroll? Considering he had neck & back injuries, wasn't it EXTREMELY dangerous for Petrino to head for Fayetteville in a car instead of an ambulance? How on earth was Dorrell unhurt considering Petrino's injuries--and where IS she now? And on the other foot: How come the police report says it occurred on a STRAIGHT section of Hwy. 16, when other reports (including photos) BACK Petrino's story that he was exiting a curve?

Had I been involved in a vehicle accident with obvious injuries and another passenger (who knows, she could have been injured and in the "heat" of the moment not realized) I would be either languishing in jail or have at least been arrested for leaving the scene of an accident but the laws are different for "important" people as we all know. I am not a hog fan and could care less if they win or lose (hogs are for bacon.......) Having raised five children through college I have paid their &&8 activity fees so people like Petrino could live the good life. At least my offspring are contributing to a better life for many others. I personally believe colleges/universities should get back to the idea of educating future workers/leaders and do away with all sports except personal competitive sports that add to health and teach people lifelong skills. Also I also do not know many 25 y/o females that make 55K a year in Arkansas, another waste of money. But then I was not willing to compromise my principles on the way up. Too bad, so sad! After reading the comments about his past, I also have issues with the people who hired him! What a mentor!!!!!

It is good to see the double standard on these boards. When Houston Nutt had an affair, Hog fans were mad. But now you have a winning coach and a lot of comments are "his personal life" and "won't comment" because Arkansas is winning.
Nice to see that morals are really cheap!

The big issue (and what differentiates this from the Houston Nutt mess) is that Coach Petrino appears to have had an "inappropriate relationship" with a subordinate. That is a BIG no-no. This potentially opens the University to future claims of sexual harassment if they don't do something to "send a message" that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

This is from a neutral observer who is a big college football fan. I have no bias in it. The things that put Arkansas in a very difficult position, from an outsider's point of view, is:
1. He lied to his boss. Up until the point where he could not hide his lies anymore. He wasn't forthcoming beforehand. The AD's job is to be responsible to the University and the Board. If he can't trust his highest paid employee to represent the truth to him that puts the AD in a very precarious situation.
2. Petrino used his position and power to hire a woman he had an inappropriate relationship with. Using university funds and placing the University of Arkansas at risk for a any number of potential lawsuits. The liability issues here are potentially very expensive.
3. This entire situation will be used for major negative recruiting. Every SEC coach will say to any bluechip recruit, Petrino lied to his boss. Why wouldn't he lie to you parents and say anything to get your son to play for Petrino?
So, yes, this is more of a difficult situation then just can he win games in the SEC? Because Petrino is ultimately asking everyone to trust him when he's given no reason to trust him ever again. If it was just about games the AD wouldn't hesitate to keep him. Keeping Petrino opens Arkansas up to large potential amounts of liability now. I'm not judging his morality and I believe he should do what he wants as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. The problem is that his actions have the potential to hurt the university. So it's more complicated than just leave the man alone and let him do what he wants. Many people would say Petrino can do what he wants but do it on his own dime on his own time and not use university resources for it.

When I heard that Butte, Montana native, Bobby Petrino crashed his motorcycle on a back road breaking some ribs, I thought that Bobby was no Bobby "Evel" Knievel, another Butte native who only crashed while jumping stuff, and should stick to coaching. Then, this morning I find out that Bobby was actually riding his Harley with a comely, long legged, 25 year old blonde Razorback football employee with whom he'd had an inappropriate relationship, when he crashed. No word as to whether the old reach around move caused the crash or if she was sitting up front porkin' Bobby. Petrino is still lying! He can't call an affair "previously inappropiate" when it is still going because she was with him! Was she or was she not currently on the bike with her "previous" lover? FIRE HIM! He is a habitual liar and has no respect for the citizens of this state that pay him 3 million dollars a year to be devious and a liar. How dumb does he think we are? I sure his wife will not consider Dorrell as only "previous".

Everyone in a supervisory position who has been fired for having sex with an employee can cast the first stone. In the real world, if you're the boss and you have sex with a subordinate, you get fired. Or the employee sues the company and becomes the new owner. I don't think the University of Arkansas wants to be renamed Dorrell University.

If the whole thing was as innocent as some would like us to believe, there would have been no reason to lie to cover it up. He screwed up by lying and having a personal relationship with a female employee outside of work. I would think that either reason could result in his termination, winning coach or not! The way that the university policies and contracts were presented on the news tonight, sounds like there might be a posssibility that he could lose it all including any kind of severance package. Hope it was worth it!
It was also pretty stupid for both of them to leave the scene in anything other than an ambulance. Either of them could have died from internal injuries that were not apparent at the time.He is lucky that the injury to his neck was not more serious since it sure was not taken care of properly right after the accident. As a professional coach I am sure he knows how devastating a neck injury can be!!!!
Doubt that anything serious will happen to him other than a slap on the wrist but if it does he will have no one to blame but himself.

I would like the media to play back the introduction of BP "Big Pimp" as the new head coach of AR. If I remember correctly, they described him as a good person of character and integrity.
What are two ways to stay young and healthy??? "A Harley and a Ho"
Unless you wreck the Harley of course.
