These walls talked

Everyone who has restored an old house dreams finding a treasure somewhere in it, writes Linda Caillouet in Saturday’s HomeStyle section.

The treasure isn’t so much a stash of gold, a cache of big bills, or a folder of old stock certificates now worth millions — though that would be nice. Homeowners hope to find a time capsule of sorts that gives some indication of how the house once looked, what the furnishings were and who lived there.

That dream of discovery was recently realized by workers at an antebellum home in Helena-West Helena as restoration began on Estevan Hall, built in 1826.
