Lottery officials to discuss contract this week

The rules for awarding lottery-funded college scholarships and a dispute over a contract with an instant ticket vendor will be considered during a series of meetings this coming week.

The Legislative Lottery Oversight Committee meets on Monday and Tuesday as the state works to notify recipients of scholarship money for the coming academic year. On Wednesday, the Arkansas Lottery Commission meets to review an internal audit.

Some commission members have raised questions about a change to the contract with its scratch ticket provider that would pay Scientific Games an additional $21 million over the life of the contract, which runs through 2016. The matter could be put to rest at Wednesday’s meeting.

Legislators are contemplating how to revise eligibility requirements for scholarship applicants.
