— Sloane Cox Mares became the bride of Jay Calvin Grelen at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Immanuel Baptist Church. Officiating were the Revs. Gary Hollingsworth of the church and Paul Holderfield of Friendly Chapel.

The bride is the daughter of Carolyn and Floyd Cox of DeWitt. She is the granddaughter of the late Dorotha and Earl Cox and the late Nona Arthur, all of DeWitt, and Joel Arthur of Russellville.

The groom is the son of Janie and Harold Grelen of Pineville, La. He is the grandson of the late Lois Miller and the late Tom Grelen, both of Bryan, Texas, and the late Wilma and Charlie Miser of El Paso, Texas.

Music was by Missy and Eric Jones and included the songs “God Bless the Broken Road,” “How Great Is Our God” and “I Can Only Imagine.” The bride’s daughter Rachel Mares of Southaven, Miss., attended the guest register. Madeleine Arancibia, niece of the groom, distributed the program.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a candlelight A-line gown. The fitted bodice of appliqued Alencon lace had a sweetheart neckline and satin shoulder straps. The back of her lace jacket was accented with satin buttons and the long sleeves were embellished with iridescent crystals and pearls. Along with her bouquet of white hydrangeas, apricot tea roses and Italian ruscus, she carried a leather coin purse passed down from her maternal grandmother. She also carried a handmade embroidered lace handkerchief that belonged to her paternal grandmother and wore a blue pin made by her daughter, Madison Amelia Mares of Little Rock.

Susan Alexander of Scott was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride’s daughter Madison and Seleta Yearian of Little Rock. They wore apricot dresses in styles of their own choosing and carried bouquets of white hydrangeas and ivory roses.

Abbey Grace Pittman of Maumelle was the flower girl.

Serving as best man was Floyd Bradley of Mayflower. The groomsmen were Ramon Arancibia of Tupelo, Miss., and Danny Shameer of Little Rock. Guests were seated by Ryan Mares of Little Rock, son of the bride, and Jason Cox and Jeremy Cox of DeWitt, brothers of the bride.

A reception at the church followed the ceremony.

The bride is director of niche publications at Arkansas Life, Sync and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The groom is a copy editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The couple will live in Little Rock.
