Inside the Petrino Crash

PETRINO STATEMENT: “I was informed in writing today at 5:45 p.m. that I was being terminated as head football coach at the University of Arkansas. The simplest response I have is: I’m sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I’ve let down by making selfish decisions. I’ve taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself." CONTINUE READING HIS STATEMENT

University of Arkansas vice chancellor and athletic director Jeff Long will meet with media this evening to discuss his review of Razorback football coach Bobby Petrino, according to a release from the school.

The meeting, which is open to accredited media members only, will be held at 7:15 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

ESPN.com's Chris Low reported shortly after the release that Petrino "will not return as head football coach at Arkansas," citing "multiple sources."

Northwest Arkansas reporter Matt Jones will have more on this story as details become available.

I love a lot of what Petrino's done while here, but I TRUST Long. If Petrino has broken that trust and isn't showing genuine transparency and repentance (change of heart regarding specific deceptions) then he should go. I will wish him well, but in the end, trustworthiness will win out for UA more than winning games while compromising trust and integrity. And I believe we can win a lot of games while we preserve and uphold that concept. Go Hogs.

Agree with AWH; if he goes, so be it. This is a premier coaching position, and there will be plenty of excellent candidates from which to choose. The program will survive and thrive.

A lot of people are saying what he did was "personal" but the bottom line is that he represents the U of A. If he lied, that's a credibility issue and does not reflect well on the university. It's sad, because he was winning games, but winning is not everything. Maybe one day every one on the Petrino bandwagon can open their eyes to the need of having credibility. That's what most parents expect of their own children, so why don't we expect it of the people that shape and mold them. Go Hogs! We will still have success...coaches come and go (just look around the country and see how many times long-standing successful programs have changed coaches). There is hope beyond Petrino.

I hope this is the right move....I hope the players prove my feelings wrong and win 11,12, or 13 games....I hope, so the drama will end....but if i am wrong and we don't have a winning season or at least win 9 games I know I know if we do keep him the press will eat it up but damn so close to a title....to be honest I don't want him to land another sec coaching gig....ole miss...lol

I trust Long and Arkansas deserves better. Hats off to Mr. Long for having the courage to do the right thing. Petrino cannot recover from this.
