Izard County investigators looking into fatal fire

By The Associated Press

This article was published April 11, 2012 at 9:08 a.m.

— Authorities say a domestic dispute may have led to a fire that killed a candidate for Izard County assessor.

Sheriff Tate Lawrence says the body of 58-year-old Charles Green was recovered early Saturday and sent to the state Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Lawrence told the Batesville Guard a neighbor called authorities and said Audrey Green came over Friday night and said her husband was threatening to burn down their house near Violet Hill. He says no one else was at the home, which was destroyed in the blaze.

Lawrence says the apparent domestic dispute between the couple may have been the catalyst behind the fire.

He says a full investigation is ongoing.

Charles Green had recently filed as a Republican candidate for county assessor.
