NLR man accused of choking father during argument

— A North Little Rock man is accused of choking his father during an argument late Tuesday night.

Jeremy D. Burnett, 29, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, domestic battery, obstructing government operations and public intoxication.

According to a North Little Rock Police Department report, an officer responded to Burnett's residence, 423 W. 16th St., around 11:30 p.m. Burnett was in the yard with several others, including his father, Otis Burnett. Otis Burnett was holding a baseball bat.

Police say an officer ordered everyone to the ground at gunpoint, but Jeremy Burnett refused to comply. Police ultimately handcuffed him while he was still standing.

Otis Burnett said he was arguing with his son when Jeremy Burnett began to choke him, cutting off his breathing until his legs began to shake, the report said. Otis Burnett added he picked up the bat to chase his son out of the house after others in the residence separated the men.

Jeremy Burnett - who police say showed signs of intoxication - told investigators "he was asleep and everyone assaulted him for no reason," the report said.

Burnett is due in court Wednesday morning.
