Police: Man cut with knife while defending mother

— A 25-year-old man was cut multiple times when he intervened after seeing his mother being pushed by her ex-boyfriend early Thursday morning.

Leavearn Roby was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment after the altercation, which happened around 2 a.m. outside the home where he and his mother live at 4014 Slinker Road.

Roby's mother, 49-year-old Justine Goforth, told investigators her ex-boyfriend, 53-year-old Lawrence Colclough, was upset about their recent breakup when he arrived at the home and broke out her bedroom windows. She then went outside to confront Colclough, at which point he pushed her, according to a Pulaski County Sheriff's Office report.

"Goforth said her son ... witnessed it and responded and intervened," deputies wrote in the report. "Goforth said Colclough then cut Roby several times with a knife before fleeing on foot."

Roby reportedly suffered cuts to his stomach, back and left leg during the incident.

Colclough was located at Jack's Motel, 9515 Highway 365, and arrested on charges of second-degree battery and criminal mischief. He said he was acting in self-defense when he cut Roby, but did not answer when asked why he had not called authorities, the report said.
