Arkansas House Speaker: Economy an issue next session

— Arkansas House Speaker-designate Darrin Williams says the biggest challenges facing legislators in the upcoming session are education, the economy and Medicaid.

Williams laid out plans for how to handle the challenges during the Arkansas Associated Press Managing Editors convention on Saturday in Heber Springs.

The recently elected speaker of the house announced the formation of a bipartisan transition team to examine the inner workings and procedures of the House.

The preparations and plans are potentially moot.

Republicans vow to oust Williams, the first black Arkansas House speaker since reconstruction, if they win the majority in November.
