‘American Voices’

The Little Rock Wind Symphony’s “American Voices” concert will feature the blues, a rag, a drag and a horn concerto at 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. Paragould native Shawn Hagen, a member of the United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” in Washington, will be the soloist in the Concerto for Horn by Brett Miller. The program will also include Fanfare for the Common Man and “The Promise of Living” from The Tender Land by Aaron Copland; Hymn to a Blue Hour by JohnMackey; band arrangements of Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag and Sunflower Slow Drag; and Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades. UCA choirs, bands

The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The Concert Choir’s program will include works by Johannes Brahms, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gyorgy Orban and Arvo Part. Meanwhile, UCA’s jazz ensembles will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the university’s Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall. Jazz Ensemble II, under the baton of Christian Carichner, will explore the rise of the Big Band Era.
