Desire Rice, 25, of 505 W. 31st St., who had been in critical condition at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock since Aug. 6, died from his injuries according to a statement by Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis.

Davis said detectives have identified Cameron Peterson, 20, as a suspect in the shooting of Rice and another man, Billy McKinney, 31, in the 1200 block of Geyer St.

Davis said detectives identified Peterson as a suspect in the shooting the next day and two first-degree battery warrants were issued for his arrest.

One of those warrants has been upgraded to first-degree murder, Davis said.

So far, police have had no luck finding Peterson.

Rice’s death marks the 34th homicide in Little Rock this year.
