Two injured in accidental shooting in White County

— Two men were accidentally shot Wednesday when a single round fired from a shotgun as a third man removed it from a gun rack, authorities said.

It happened about 9:30 p.m. at 825 Tom Conder Road in northern White County.

Police say Allen Lee King, 44, was taking the gun off a rack attached to a wall in the bedroom when he somehow caused the weapon to fire. A single round went through the bedroom wall and struck Jacob Morris, 30, and James Mitchell, 32, as they sat at the kitchen table.

Both men suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Investigators believe the round first struck Morris in the shoulder, exited through his neck and then entered Mitchell's chest.

"The investigation is still ongoing as to the negligence in the manner that Mr. King handled the rifle," White County Cpl. Steve Hernandez said in a news release.
