— The trial for a man accused of fatally beating and running over a teenage boy after the youth allegedly took his wallet has been delayed.

Michael Sadler, 58, made a brief appearance before Pulaski County Circuit Judge Herb Wright on Monday, during which time his attorney requested additional time to prepare for trial.

With no objection from the state, Wright rescheduled the trial for Dec. 5, delaying it about two months from its previously set date of Oct. 3. A pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 15.

Sadler was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder after the May 3 killing of Michael Stanley Jr. Authorities say Sadler chased down the teen, running him over with his minivan van and then getting out and beating him because the teen took his wallet at a Little Rock convenience store.

Sadler, wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and with his hands shackled in front of him, didn't speak during the brief appearance.
