CONWAY The Faulkner-Van Buren Regional Library System Board of Directors, the Friends of the Libraries and the regional staff will hold a reception in honor of Ruth Voss from 3:30-6 p.m. Thursday with a short presentation planned at 5 at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. The public is invited.
Voss will retire Dec. 31 after 34 years as director of the Faulkner-Van Buren Regional Library System.
“I knew and worked with Ruth, first, as a library patron, taking my daughters to check out books and to story time at the old library,” said Joyce Fiddler, president of the Friends of the Libraries. “Ruth asked me to serve on the library board in the early 1980s and then as chair of the regional board.
“During that time, the board encouraged Ruth to get her Master of Library Science to help her grow the library system and to make it eligible for additional funding,” Fiddler said. “During that time, we also campaigned for a sales tax to build the main library on Tyler Street and branches in Mayflower, Greenbrier and Vilonia. Since my retirement, I have worked with Ruth as president of the Friends of the Libraries.
“I am privileged to have worked with Ruth as a volunteer over the years as she has led the development of this library system. Under her leadership, this library has become a vibrant part of the community and most welcoming to the public for both individual and group needs.”
