Holmstrom hired as new Arkansas House staff chief

— A former executive director of the state Democratic Party has been hired to help run the newly majority-Republican Arkansas House.

Incoming House Speaker Davy Carter on Monday announced that he had hired Gabe Holmstrom as the chamber’s chief of staff. Holmstrom replaces current chief Bill Stovall, who will become House chief operations officer.

Carter is a Republican from Cabot who was elected speaker-designate last month after Republicans won control of the House. Holmstrom previously worked as a public affairs specialist for Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods.

Carter also announced he hired former Rep. Roy Ragland as House Director.

A spokeswoman for the House did not know how much the three would be paid. Stovall’s salary as chief was about $133,000. Carter did not immediately return a call late Monday afternoon.
