Lottery Commission to meet in Russellville

By The Associated Press

This article was published December 3, 2012 at 7:10 a.m.

— The Arkansas Lottery Commission is to meet at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville as the panel awaits changes by the Legislature in the format for lottery-funded scholarships.

The commission is to meet at 1 p.m. Monday at Rothwell Hall and is to hear from Arkansas Tech President Robert Brown and two recipients of lottery scholarships.

Legislators say there is not enough money to sustain the current scholarship levels of $4,500 for university students and $2,250 for community college students.

Legislators say they will have to lower the amounts, tighten the academic requirements to qualify for aid or make other changes.

The composition of the Legislative Lottery Oversight Committee will change once the Legislature convenes in January with newly-elected members, so the new scholarship parameters won’t be set until the coming session.
