UAMS promotes Leslie Taylor to vice chancellor of communications

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has named Leslie Welch Taylor as its vice chancellor of communications and marketing effective Jan. 1, the academic health center announced Monday.

She succeeds Pat Torvestad, who retires Dec. 31 after more than 20 years of service to the center and the University of Arkansas system.

“Leslie gives us the needed combination of communications leadership, familiarity with UAMS and our mission and also a dedication for communicating to our many constituencies with clarity and consistency,” UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn said in a news release.

Taylor, who is working toward earning a master's degree in journalism, joined UAMS in 2002 as its associate vice chancellor of communications and marketing. With more than 25 years experience in the field, Taylor has held several communications positions at Arkansas companies including the Arkansas Gazette, Alltel Corp., and CARTI.
