— FOOTBALL ASU duo earns SBC honors

Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin and linebacker Nathan Herrold were named offensive and defensive players of the week by the Sun Belt Conference.

Aplin completed 19 of 21 passes for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also adding 64 yards on 6 carries and 1 touchdown to give him 302 yards of total offense in the Red Wolves’ 45-0 victory over Middle Tennessee.

Herrold recorded a team-high 10 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, 1 interception and a pass break-up. This was the fifth time this season that Herrold recorded double-digit stops and the eighth time of his career, pushing his season total to 109 to make him the first Arkansas State player with over 100 tackles in a season since the 2007 campaign.

BASKETBALL Arkansas Tech’s Weatherford honored by GAC

Arkansas Tech’s Jessica Weatherford was named women’s player of the week by the Great American Conference.

Weatherford had a career-high 32 points and 12 rebounds in the Golden Suns’ 81-61 victory over Southern Nazarene on Nov. 29.

Harding’s Roddenberry recognized by GAC

Harding’s Zach Roddenberry was named men’s player of the week by the Great Amiercan Conference after he led the Bison to three victories.

He opened the week with 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 68-63 victory against No. 12 Christian Brothers. On Thursday, against undefeated Northeastern State, he scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in a 65-63 victory. In Harding’s GAC opener, he had 32 points against Southern Nazarene. That game marked the first time in his career that he made 10 or more field goals and 10 or more free throws in the same game.
