Beebe to discuss 'fiscal cliff' meeting with Obama

LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Mike Beebe is to discuss his meeting with President Barack Obama about the prospect of looming tax increases and federal spending cuts.

Beebe met with the president Tuesday as part of a bipartisan delegation of governors concerned that the federal government may shift burdens to the states if "fiscal cliff" negotiations with Congress don’t bring a resolution.

House Republicans and the White House have been working to arrive at an agreement on tax revenue and reductions in spending on entitlements.

Beebe and other governors took Obama a message that they don’t want the states to have to pick up the tab for cuts in federal spending.

Beebe is to meet with reporters at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
