Illegal immigration drops after decade-long rise

By The Associated Press

This article was published December 6, 2012 at 8:02 a.m.

— New census data released Thursday affirm a clear and sustained drop in illegal immigration, ending more than a decade of increases.

The number of illegal aliens in the U.S. dropped to an estimated 11.1 million last year from a peak of 12 million in 2007, part of an overall waning of Hispanic immigration.

For the first time since 1910, Hispanic immigration last year was topped by immigrants from Asia.

Demographers say illegal Hispanic immigration — 80 percent of all illegal immigration comes from Mexico and Latin America — isn’t likely to approach its mid-2000 peak again, due in part to a weakened U.S. economy and stronger enforcement but also a graying of the Mexican population.

In all, the biggest surge of immigration in modern U.S. history ultimately may be recorded as occurring in the mid-1990s to early 2000s, yielding illegal residents who now have been settled in the U.S. for 10 years or more.

They include migrants who arrived here as teens and are increasingly at risk of “aging out” of congressional proposals such as the DREAM Act that offer a pathway to citizenship for younger adults.

Yes, there is a graying of the Mexican population because a lot of the younger people came here and had their kids here.
It is shameful that the USA did not even attempt to enforce its immigration policies because that has led us to the situation we are in now. The Immigration Act of 1986 signed by Reagan and pushed through by a lot of Democrats was a diasater . One of his intentions was to destroy the labor movement i.e. labor unions by importing cheap and vulnerable workers that could be intimidated and controlled through governement policies. Now the Democrats have used that ploy to win elections.
Having dealt with the Immigration authorities on several occasions I can tell you that unless you are a member of a minority group, uneducated and non-Christian your chances of coming here legally are quite limited. Yes, businesses can get a certain amount of Visas for a select few but otherwise if you are an educated Asian or European you are not going to be allowed to migrate here. Even now the minority groups in Congress are holding hostage a reasonable bill to help correct some of the mess but it is being held up because of the so-called junk diversity issues.
A lot of people are unaware of this but a lot of the functions of immigration have been out sourced to private firms that are corrupt, inept and demeaning.
The whole thing sucks. It is totally unfair, it rewards people who break the law and punishes people who try to follow it. This croses party lines and none of the Presidents we have had beginning with Reagan have dealt with it fairly. To them it is to build a core of poor, and for the most part uneducated populace, a lot of whom cannot even read or write in their own languages much less English so they can manipulate government through corporate control and giving handouts to vocal minority groups.
Most of the developed countries have immigration laws that work and enforced properly.
The way our laws are written and enforced it degrades the citizen status.

Don't worry, it is nothing that our government actually did to curb or stop it.
