— A Russellville man has died days after the pickup he was driving left a Pope County highway and struck two fences and a tree, authorities said.

Donnie R. Wood, 80, was driving a 1987 Ford F150 north on Arkansas 27 shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday when the pickup veered off the west side of the road in Hector.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, the truck hit a fence, reentered the roadway, crossed the highway and then ran off the east side of the road. There, it struck another fence and a tree.

Wood was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m. Thursday. No other injuries were reported in the single-vehicle accident.

Wood was the 511th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
