— A Horseshoe Lake woman was killed Thursday when the car she was driving hit a culvert and overturned.

Arkansas State Police say Bonnie Pruitt-Mayfield, 45, was driving a 2002 Saturn north on Arkansas 131 about 5:30 p.m. in Crittenden County when the car veered across southbound traffic and into a ditch.

According to a preliminary report, the Saturn then struck a culvert and overturned, ejecting Pruitt-Mayfield. She was dead at the scene.

The report did not indicate what caused the car to run off the road, but it said the surface was wet at the time.

Pruitt-Mayfield was the 512th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
