— A Hampton man died Thursday when the pickup he was driving ran off a Calhoun County highway and hit a culvert.

Authorities say Clifford Wayne Shackleford, 55, was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra east on Arkansas 274 shortly before 11:30 a.m. when the truck left the road near Arkansas 203 in Hampton. It then hit the culvert.

A preliminary Arkansas State Police report did not indicate what caused the pickup to run off the road.

Shackleford was the 513th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
